My sleep cycle has been a little all over the place since getting back to work, today it’s 3 a.m. shenanigans. I listened to Rudy Sarzo being interviewed by Billy Corgan and can’t wait for part 2 to come out.

Jack DeJohnette passed away today at 83. Such a great drummer.

My mother-in-law bakes 6-8 of these sourdough loaves per week it seems. Poor me.

Two freshly baked loaves of bread rest on parchment paper in a rustic kitchen setting.

Today marks the last week I file for my weekly unemployment benefits and start my new gig on Tuesday. This has been a wild experience and I’m grateful to be going back to work, and excited for the actual work too. More on that later, don’t want to jinx it!

RIP, D'Angelo

D’Angelo was incredible and Black Messiah is straight up a life changing album. I spent the last few days listening to this album on repeat. His singing makes time reset to him. Here’s a snippet of a drum cover I attempted just now of “Ain’t That Easy”.

Beautiful October day, 80 degrees, breezy. Oh, and I start my new job in a week. More to come.

Thanks, LinkedIn.

A LinkedIn notification suggests developing skills with a course on Excel: PivotTables for Beginners, related to a saved job.

Anika Nilles drumming with Rush is such a badass move on Geddy and Alex’s part. Rolling Stone profile of Anika Nilles.

Living Color still sound fucking amazing, Cult of Personality performed on Jimmy Kimmel’s show.

The Nebraska Telephone Company Building in Lincoln. A reminder that infrastructure used to be built with style. From theclio.com:

The ground story is composed of cast iron with a simple classical motif spanning the width of the front of the building. The upper stories are St. Louis pressed brick topped by a terra cotta entablature and wall cornice, under a copper free-standing anthemion motif. This motif featuring of alternating lotus and palmette is shared by the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The second and third floor facades also feature ornate designs such as a terra cotta panel featuring a bell (a symbol of the phone company) and floral motif underneath a palladian window.

Two historical buildings with distinct architectural styles stand side by side on a cloudy day, bordered by a road and grassy patches.

Give me the titanium iPhone mini as the next air.

This. From Taegan Goddard’s Politcal Wire. Well worth the subscription btw.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) could simply announce that Democrats will no longer filibuster appropriations bills, and when back in the majority, they’ll formally abolish it. That alone would render the filibuster meaningless. Such a move would leave Republicans fully responsible for funding the government. Democrats could vote against GOP proposals and then criticize them as bad policy without being blamed for shutting down the government.

Posted a YouTube short of my drum cover of Shout by Tears for Fears. This is from a few months ago, I wish my back was back to 100% so I could play more.

The drum community simply does not talk about Richard Spaven enough.

Quiet morning. Got my coffee brewed up. Tasty. The smell of fall is in the air.

A fine morning to get the random “ your health insurance plan has been cancelled, thank you for your loyalty” notice.

Wow, the iPhone Air doesn’t have stereo speakers??? Courage.

#

This Luiza Brina Tiny Desk performance is outstanding. I need to rewatch it but ordered the record. Saravá.

Upgrading my backup phone to ios 26. My Mac is still on Sonoma and will probably stay there for a while.

Spin Doctors cover Purple Rain (yes, that Purple Rain) and I’m here for it. 🫡

Tweaked my back a week or so ago, it was almost healed and then came back with a vengeance. Laid in bed all day yesterday and today is looking to be the same. The only internet I did was redesigning my site, Nokia blue is the one, true blue.

I watched Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven (from 2005). Edward Norton saves this entire movie as King Baldwin, and seriously, he only had a few short scenes, wears a mask the entire time (since he is the Leper King), but leaves an unmistakable impression.

Inflation and, you know, getting laid off.

A Wall Street Journal article headline reports that inflation erased U.S. income gains last year, with high-income households faring better and women losing ground to men, according to the Census Bureau.

My iPhone 13 mini is at 93% battery health. And still lighter than all of these newer phones. The new Airpods Pro are nice. Airpods Pro + iPhone seem like a far more powerful computing option than any VR or glasses imo.

I sniff an Apple global MVNO in the near future.

This is really good and honestly I will keep paying for Kagi vs. any LLM all day.

Kagi News looks good! First they define the problem:

Driven by relentless ad monetization, news has become mental junk food - an endless stream of clickbait that destroys our ability to think deeply and clearly.

Huh….did not have Atlassian buying The Browser Company (makers of Arc browser) in my bingo card: www.atlassian.com/blog/anno…
